How to use PNG to PLT Converter

    Check the live preview and nudge the threshold slider until the artwork traces cleanly — dark pixels become engraved outlines, light pixels are dropped.

    Click convert. Each image is traced to closed vector contours, auto-cropped to its content, Y-flipped for a bottom-left origin, and scaled to match your existing files.

Things to know

PLT/HPGL is a vector outline format, not a picture

A .plt file describes pen movements — pen-up to jump, pen-down to draw a line — that trace the outlines of your artwork. It is what plotters and laser engravers read. This tool emits only those move/draw commands (no curves, since the format has none): every shape becomes closed straight-line contours.

Outlines only — your laser software fills them

The PLT contains outlines, not solid fills. EzCad2 (and similar) apply the hatching/fill on import, which is why the file is small and clean. Contours are closed so the fill knows what is inside.

Tracing quality depends on a clean, high-contrast source

The converter traces the boundary between dark and light pixels. Crisp black-on-white artwork traces perfectly; a low-contrast, blurry, or heavily anti-aliased scan will trace fuzzy edges. Use the threshold slider and the preview to get a clean black/white image before converting a batch.

Check QR codes and barcodes before a full run

QR and barcode modules are square, and the tracer keeps them square — but always convert one sheet, engrave or preview it, and scan the code before committing hundreds. A source image that is too small or too soft can lose module definition regardless of the converter.

Physical size is set on import, not here

The PLT preserves your artwork's aspect ratio exactly and scales the longest side to a standard size, but the real millimetre dimensions are set in EzCad2 (or your engraver software) when you import. Absolute scale in the file is not what determines engraved size.
